Coldwater ends 6th successful season -> in TheShufflersNews/September 20, 2011
Summer Season Ends: Coldwater Shuffleboard wrapped up the summer program
on Sept 15 to make way for ice to be put into the Curling Arena. ( and get ready
for the home club rink of Glen Howard ) They now have 4 sheets of ice covering
our 16 shuffleboard courts , but we also move on to the winter Shuffleboard
program in the auditorium of the Municipal Arena which is just next door.
Winter Shuffleboard: We are fortunate to have 6 fantastic roll out courts and play every Tue am starting at 9:00 am with a break for lunch and then continue on until 3:30 pm and that is followed by refreshments. There are some players who take part in the morning games and some just in the afternoon and then their are some who have the stamina to do both. This winter program will continue on until mid April on the roll out courts. We would love to have you drop by and try our roll out courts any time starting Oct 18 - Contact club president George O'Reilly - 705-325-3429, cadiman@rogers.com.
Spring and Summer 2012: We will be back into the Coldwater Curling Arena in late April for another summer season and will once again be hosting the CNSA any doubles May 22/23/24 .
Get to know us: Drop by for an initial visit to get to know us and have a game of Scrambles - Tue or Thur starting at 1:00 pm throughout the summer months.
Special Needs: We have a special needs handicapped group who play every
Tue am throughout the summer and this has become a huge and overwhelming success
.
We have been approached by the special Olympics commission to consider
promoting this wonderful game of shuffleboard into the Special Olympics.
Thanks to all who signed up and showed up to play and special thanks to Larry
Spires for helping to push back and make third calls.
When I checked over
the results as handed in by the captains I discovered that there were 74 wins
reported when there should have been 75. When I cross checked the results I
found and verified the error between Team C and Team E in the last game. As
a result the winning team is A with 15 1/2 points and there was a tie between
Teams C and D for second with 15 points. Team F was next
with 12 1/2 points.
Special congratulations are in order for Rip Van Ginkel who won all five
games for Team A. Here are the members of the teams.

A
little fuzzy maybe, but we had a great time (as always) and welcomed two new
folks - Norm, and "Rip" (Van Ginkle!).
Wednesday April 24th. We got all our stuff out of the basement
storage area and up to "our" room on the main level, ready for our
first day of play, May 4.
| August 2010 Pot-Luck Picnic |
Click for the pics. | Once again our Pot-Luck -Picnic was held on our usual shuffle day, as the Blackstock Fair folks set up the area for their annual fair. We had a great time at Nancy and Bob Bryans, Al Leslie played the great 50s music. We all enjoyed the wonderful pot-luck lunch, and many of us also enjoyed some lawn games and ate a little too much! |
October 5, 2010 -
Scugog Shuffleboard Club completed another successful season with an awards
banquet in the Ball Room of the Blackstock Community Centre on Wednesday September
22, 2010. Trophies were presented for high scores in daily play singles (afternoon)
and doubles (morning) for both men and ladies. A new trophy was donated in memory
of Gerald Balson to be presented to the most improved player of the season.
Ann Balson was a very deserving first winner of this trophy.
On Wednesday
September 15, 2010, we held our final club tournament of the year. It was a
Team Format with four equal teams of eight members (4 women and 4 men). We played
six matches of eight frames with a colour change half way through. Each player
competed in singles against five other players of similar ability from the other
three teams. The winning team had 28 points, second place had 24 points and
the other two teams tied with 22 points. The winning team members were Audrey
Middleton, Nancy Bryans, Barb Spires, Barb Wilson, John Heron, Don Tucker, George
Cochrane, and Val Priebe. Nancy Bryans is the only player to win all
six games.
We wish you a healthy and successful winter and hope to see you all back for more fun next Spring and if possible, bring along a friend to help expand our membership.

Notes From Lee MacIntyre:
Arnold Mueller has asked me to send you information about shuffleboard at our
club.We operate at The Legion in Brockville.I believe the group has been in
existence for about 40 years .We have a roster of about 100 names in our group
of which approx 25-40 come every week. The oldest person we have is almost 90.
We presently have 4 courts with one more in the future. Three of our courts
are "built in" along with one vinyl court that we have had about 12
years. We run a couple of tournaments usually in spring and fall along with a
couple of "sport " days sponsored by the Legion.
We ran
a section of Ont senior games for several years and we had the Canada Games
in Brockville this fall with 19 teams from all over Canada. Our group supplied
all the volunteers needed at our local arena. We brought in 6 courts from Ont
Senior Games as we needed more room than we had at the Legion. We had one local
team entered.
We charge a small fee with part going to Legion and our sponsor"Diamond Jubilee". Some goes to prize money and some to a reserve fund for supplies.
We operate all year with a short break at Christmas and whenever the hall is rented for a local function. It is open to the public every week.
I have been the contact person for the last several years, and hope to continue.
We have a great group that come almost every week. Any more info I can give
you I would be pleased to help. Lee MacIntyre

Hi Grace. We have
shuffleboard all year round. We have a few people who go to Florida.but we generally
have about 20 to 25 people or more each week. We lose a very few wednesdays
all year when the auditorium is rented for a paying function.
Here
are a couple of minitaures of snaps we took in September 2010. (Click to
