This page contains comments from fellow shufflers about motels they have stayed in while attending tournaments in Ontario. Some information obtained from the Internet is posted here as well. We hope it is useful to our shufflers for determining what motel to stay in when visiting one of the locations listed. Content posted here is for the convenience of OSA members, but does not constitute recommendations by the Ontario Shuffleboard Association. You are advised to verify room rates and cancellation policy and other details by phone.

Please contribute your experience(s) with a motel or B&B on the Ontario tournament circuit. E-mail bill.boyes@bell.net. Please tell us if you enjoyed your stay (providting any details you wish), if there were any problems, and if you would go back. We will withhold your name if you wish.

Included on this page are Coldwater, Napanee, St Marys and Woodstock.

COLDWATER - MIDLAND

Since Coldwater is a small village, the only accommodation available is (are?) B&Bs. No B&B reviews available. The closest city with a variety of motels etc. is Midland, about a 30 minute drive away.

  • Best Western in Midland. On Hwy-12 entrance off King St.
Bill Boyes, 2012 - booked 3 nights by phone $79.99/night.
Bill Boyes, 2011 - Very good motel, very satisfied. Great dining room!. Good free breakfast selection including hot scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles. 20-25 minutes to Coldwater. $99.99 per night + HST. (two nights are cheaper).

  • Super-8 Motel in Midland. 1144 Hugel Ave., Midland Phone: 705-526-8288. New in 2007.
Bill Boyes, 2010 - Good motel, like new. Very satisfied. Located on west side of Midland, but on a main road so leaving at 07:45 had no problems with traffic in getting to Coldwater by 08:15 AM.
2012 Checked rate by phone: $99.88, book for 3 nights online and get 15% discount.
  • Howard Johnson Motel in Midland.
Bill & Penny Boyes 2009 - (from memory) we were satisfied with our stay but accommodations were, to us, minimal, but so was the cost.

  • Little Lake Inn B&B in Midland.
Bill & Penny Boyes, 2008 - A great place to stay, situated right on the edge of a park. We found however that we could not properly enjoy the sumptuous breakfast as we had to move quickly and leave by 07:45 to get to Coldwater by 08:15-08:30 AM. Overall, the B&B seemed expensive without the enjoyment of the luxury of the leisurely and excellent breakfast that we paid for.

NAPANEE

  • The Fox Motor Inn, 297 Dundas St W. (613)354-3855. Very reasonable breakfast at Tammy's Country Kitchen across the road (300 Dundas Street W.) A couple of negative ratings on tripadvisor.com.
"Clean, good value, not new by any means." (By Bill Boyes who stayed there in 2009).

  • Hampton Inn, Just off hwy. 401 (40 McPherson Dr., Napanee @ Centre Street & Richmond Blvd.) (613)354-5554. Advertises $149. ($129 on hotels.com). Highest rated of motels in Napanee by travelocity.com. Advertised on Internet as fairly new with pool, Internet etc.

ST MARYS

  • The Stone Willow Inn, 940 Queen St. E, St. Marys.
    - Bill & Penny Boyes, 2010 - Satisfactory accommodations. A bit pricey, but understandable, being fairly close to Stratford. Shuffle courts no more than 10 minutes away. Good dining room/bar. Lots of shufflers stay at The Stone Willow so you almost always see other shufflers in the dining room etc. We'll be back.
    -
The Boyes' 2011 - stayed two nights. Great dinners in their dining room. Same great overall experience. One negative is the free breakfast selection did not include any hot dishes, but there were lots of good quality breads, buns jams, cereals etc. Good coffee!
  • Blanchard B&B, 4959 Line 6 RR #6, St. Marys.
Bill & Penny Boyes, 2009 - Very nice accommodations. Breakfasts very good. We were the only guests (B&B can handle two sets) so had the place to ourselves as the owner, George Blanchard, does not stay there overnight. This is a fairly new house built on a lot right in the middle of a farming area. There was a wonderful view over the fields from our bedroom. Allow 10 - 15 minutes to get to the shuffleboard courts.
